Tigerville, SC -- The Piedmont College softball team was swept in doubleheader action by NCAA Division II member North Greenville University this afternoon.  After dropping a 2-0 decision in game one, the Lady Lions could not avoid the sweep as they fell in game two by a score of 7-4.

In game one, both teams struggled offensively combining for only five hits in seven innings of play.  For the Lady Lions, junior Raley White and freshman Megan Kesler each added a hit as PC was unable to cross the plate.

#B.J. Cofer# threw well from the mound in defeat tossing seven innings while allowing only two hits.  The junior from Woodstock, GA allowed a run in the first inning before giving up a solo shot in the fourth.  With the loss, Cofer moves to 2-2 on the year.

Game two saw the score draw even twice as Piedmont struck early with two runs in the top of the first off RBIs from Rebecca Renfroe and Megan McClain.  The host Crusaders then knocked a two run homer in the bottom half of the first to tie the score at two a piece.

PC would surge ahead once more as Renfroe came through again, this time leading off the third by blasting a solo homer.  Two batters later, Kesler would then help her own cause by batting in Cofer to put PC up two runs for the second time in three innings.

North Greenville would again even the score in the bottom of the third before eventually taking their first lead two innings later putting two pitches over the fence.  Kesler took the 7-4 loss allowing three home runs on the day while fanning six.

The two defeats drop Piedmont to 3-5 on the year.  The Lady Lions will return to the diamond this Saturday, March 20th as they begin Great South Athletic Conference play with two games against rival Huntingdon College.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:00.
