Stanescu was inducted into the P Club Hall of Fame in 2012 after an illustrious career on the courts for Piedmont tennis that came in amongst one of the most dominant stretches by any program in the history of the Great South Athletic Conference. Spending his time exclusively at the #1 singles slot for Head Coach Shane Wood, Stanescu was a four-time All-Conference honoree in both singles and doubles helping Piedmont to four straight GSAC titles as a part of a run featuring seven straight conference titles for Piedmont men's tennis from 2001 to 2007.
Also a three-time member of the GSAC All-Academic team for his work in the classroom, Stanescu was named the Great South Athletic Conference Player of the Year four times winning the award as just a freshman in 2002 before going to repeat in 2003, 2004, and 2005 for his play on the courts which began his legend at Burgen Tennis Courts.
Additionally, Stanescu finished his career with back-to-back All-American seasons in 2004 and 2005 named to the prestigious list by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in singles and doubles during both his junior and senior years.
Stanescu played in the NCAA National Tournament with the Piedmont Lions as a team in 2004 while also competing himself as an individual in both 2004 and 2005 and pairing with Sigartu to play doubles in '05 as well.
Sebastian also spent time in the ITA National Rankings as well debuting his freshman year at #44 in the nation in singles in the final rankings of the season. He then appeared again in the ITA National Rankings the following season pairing with teammate Valentin Sigartu to place 11th in doubles before the pair reappeared in their senior season at #15.
Ranked 29th in his senior season in singles play in the final rankings, Stanescu peaked nationally in his junior year when he finished ranked as the 13th best singles player in the country in 2004. It was also in the 2004 season that Stanescu led Piedmont to its first national ranking in men's tennis since the Lions moved to Division III. In that final ITA National Ranking,
Piedmont finished #23 in the country. During Piedmont's team appearance in the NCAA National Tournament in 2004, Stanescu accounted for a win in both singles and doubles as he paired with Sigartu to defeat Washington & Lee's top doubles pairing as well the Generals' top singles player Paul McClure doing so in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
In the singles portion of the National Championships, Stanescu won his opening match defeating Nathan Edmunds of Middlebury in three sets before falling in the second round to eventual singles national champion Matt Seeberger in a three-set thriller 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
