Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Piedmont College men's tennis team fell earlier Saturday in the semifinals of the USA South Championship Tournament to top-seeded North Carolina Wesleyan College 9-0.

The Battling Bishops took all three doubles decisions though the top slot was a close decision 8-6 in favor of NC Wesleyan as the pair of MATTHEW METZGER and NATHAN METZGER fell in the spot.

Piedmont also saw MATTHEW METZGER push the decision at #2 singles winning the first set 6-4 before falling 6-4 in the second to set up a decisive third.  Ioannis Brokakis took the third and final 10-3 to earn the decision, but Metzger pushed Brokakis to three, the first time that has happened for Brokakis against a conference foe this season.

The loss ends the 2016 season for Piedmont at now 11-8 overall, the 5th straight double-digit win season for the Lions in men's tennis.

Turning Point
--N.C. Wesleyan took all three doubles points including a close 8-6 win at the #1 doubles and clinched with a win at #5 singles. 

Standout Performances
--MATTHEW METZGER was the only Lion to win a set against the Battling Bishops as he won the first and was taken to three sets but lost in the second and third. 
--Metzger paired with his brother NATHAN METZGER to push the limit at #1 doubles as well falling 8-6.

Inside the Box Score
--MATTHEW METZGER's three-set decision saw two 6-4 wins before the eventual 10-3 decider that went against PC.

News & Notes
--Piedmont finished the season 11-8 overall marking the fifth time since 2011 that the men have posted at least 11 wins in a season. 
--2011 also marked the return of Head Coach Shane Wood to the Piedmont courts after a three-year span away from Demorest as the Head Coach at D-1 Jacksonville.
--Prior to Wood's return, the Lions were 3-25 in the previous two seasons.
