Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College Department of Athletics recently finished a month-long charity project for Soles4Souls, a Nashville-based organization that collects shoes for people in need across the globe.  Sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), PC began the drive for shoes on January 8 and plans to bring its donations totaling over 200 pairs of shoes to the Great South Athletic Conference office this afternoon prior to its basketball doubleheader at LaGrange.

Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away nearly 12 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes - currently donating one pair every 7 seconds. The shoes have been distributed to people in over 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States.

Soles4Souls has been featured in Runner's World, Ladies' Home Journal, National Geographic's Green Guide, and The New York Times. The ogranization has also appeared on CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, BBC, CNN and thousands of regional news outlets across North America.

The Soles4Souls connection with Piedmont College is a part of a conference-wide initiative that involves all GSAC member institutions and their respective SAACs.  The SAAC at each member school is responsible for sponsoring the shoe drive at their own schools as the Great South Athletic Conference will make a single combined donation to Soles4Souls at the end of this academic year.

As a charter member of the Great South Athletic Conference, Piedmont College is a member of the NCAA conducting its athletic program in Division III.
